P. JilekHelp me find an elk hunt
Hello all!
I have done a lot of hunting, but never had the chance or made the time to go for elk. This is something that I would really like to do and I am thinking of going in 2011 (due to other vacation commitments in the coming years). I would like to concentrate on Wyoming, Colorado and (mostly) New Mexico. I can do either archery or rifle (my preference). I would like to go on a hunt that has no high fences or guarantees and is a dawn to dusk "work your ass off" type of affair. I don't need fancy lodges or five star dining, a tent and a granola bar are fine with me. I am pretty naive about the drawing systems these states have as of now, but I am doing my research as time allows. I realize that the best areas can take a lifetime of preference points and/or a lot of money, so I am looking for areas/outfitters that are manageable for my timeframe. I realize that shooting a world record is out of the question, but I am looking for areas that offer reasonable chances at a trophy that can go on the wall. I hope I have provided enough information here, anyone that can suggest units/areas/guides/expectations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Rob1SGI have hunted NW Colo. before with these guys they have 100,000 acres under lease and you can hunt from Sept-Jan $4500-$5500 the early hunts cost more excellent chance for a 5x5 or 6x6.

ELKMAN2You might try Whispering Pines Outfitters, just down the road from Elkhorn, I have hunted with them twice and will go again this December for a cow elk. They hunt the same ground and Elkhorn

wapiti7Jilek,
What weapon do you want to hunt with?
Bull or cow?
If a bull, how big?
Guided or not?
How much do you want to spend?
Are you in good shape?

AtkinsonSince you don't need any pampering why not just come to Idaho and do a hunt on your own..I will be glad to tell you where you can go and have a pretty good chance to kill a good bull if your in good phyical shape. You would need a wall tent, stove, and camp gear but thats a lot cheaper than a guided hunt.
Email me if interested.
