The design criteria would be to have a shank the length of the neck immediately sloping in the biggest ogive that gives a COL of 2.2inches.
Jacket thickness to penetrate up to 500lb deer (I imagine .030")
Early indications based on mutilating a 286gr partition are that bullet weight for such a design would be around 200gr.
Seeing as I can drive Norma 232gr at 2600fps I reckon these will go 2750fps and be a deal slipperier.
What do you think, will these work or does this fall into the category of (expensive) time wasting?
If I changed the design to a thicker jacket would they penetrate something like an elk/moose or would the SD be so poor as to limit penetration whatever the jacket thickness?
I would consider a GS bullet of that weight and you could still maintain your secional density as the monolithics are long for weight....
I have had great luck with the 250 gr. Swift and Nosler Balistic tips.
