Bought new bullets! Which to use?
I just ordered some new bullets for this upcoming elk hunt and possible future bear/pig/moose hunts. I know that the saying will be brought up about shooting the bullet that shoots the best out of your rifle. I would just like to hear some stories of experience with either of these bullets so my dad and myself can use the better or both on this hunt.

1. Hornady 225gr. Inter-Lock's

2. Speer 250gr. Grandslams

Both of these are for our .338's.

Thanks

Justin

Hornady. Much more accurate for me, easier to find a load.

Tried the Gslams but 2" is about as good as I could get them. No big deal for shots under 200 yards.

Depending on how you plan on bear hunting, either will be fine. I dumped my last bear with a 225 AB at 12 yards. Didn't pass through but mushroomed perfectly.

What is your personal distance limit?

338 what? Win Mag? Ultra mag? Kahn? 338-06?

Hi Doc!

They are both Win. Mag's

I've shot this rifle out to 500yd but in the units we hunt the shots would be under 200yards.

Thanks

In my old Ruger 77 .338 Win. Mag., I've used the 225 grains Hornady Interlock to kill three bull elk. In my experience, it is a very fine bullet for killing elk.

One was killed at about 80 yards, another at about 200 yards, and one at about 350 yards. (On the latter, I was almost literally benchrested across a large boulder, my rifle rested on my daypack.)

I've read a number of good reports on the Hornady Interbond bullets, but haven't used them... yet.

Where are you going to be elk hunting???

FWIW. L.W.

Thanks for the replies!

I head out each year to Northern Colorado thumb

I was looking around on RN and also saw people were getting excellent accuracy with the Hornadys

Keep them coming!

Either bullet will work fine, but the Speer is a tougher bullet, and will penetrate deeper.

Remember, forgivness is easier to get than permission.

My exact experience, I would go with the Hornady's.

I've also found the Hornady easier to get accurate loads w/ but they are a bit softer than the GS.

Personally if I had to choose between those 2 it would be the GS.

Both I've found to be accurate but I generally would prefer (not that it is alwasy needed) a heavily constructed bullet especially for elk.

I'd go GS

lol I reloaded some 210gr Partitions in my .338 and I couldn't get them to shoot well (was using IMR4350)...maybe it was the powder?

Thanks guys and if any more of ya'll have tried either the Hornady's or the Speer's please keep on posting!

Thanks

Justin
