Wolves to come off endangered list within 60 days
..Federal wildlife officials say they will take more than 1,300 gray wolves in the Northern Rockies off the endangered species list within 60 days.
An attachment to the budget bill signed into law Friday by President Barack Obama strips protections from wolves in five Western states.
It marks the first time Congress has taken a species off the endangered list.
Idaho and Montana plan public wolf hunts this fall. Hunts last year were canceled after a judge ruled the predators remained at risk.
Protections remain in place for wolves in Wyoming because of its shoot-on-sight law for the predators.
There are no immediate plans to hunt the small wolf populations in Oregon and Washington. No packs have been established in Utah.

BiebsI'm sure some judge in Boise or Billings will throw his 2 cents in again and screw things up before that happens.

ravenri'm jumpin for joy over this last bit of sanity
and the end to this ecological disaster.
but i got to say it as much fun, going on the tree hugger/eco web sites and rubbing salt into this open wound.
to hear them tell it the sky is falling and the world is coming to an end.
and i'm in the middle of it, telling them its their own fault for congressional intervention
and how the wolves are going to pay the price for their stupidity.
and how much fun it going to be to bust a cap in their (wolf) ass.
then the spitting and gnashing of teeth start, then i remind them of the last line of this rider that says "not subject to judical review"
and my personel fits of glee prohibit me from anything more than rolling around on the floor laughing hysterically!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SidnyeI still have my unfilled Idaho tag from a few years back. I think Idaho sold something like 20k wolf tags and still did not meet the goal of 200+wolves harvested.
It's not a walk in the park. But I'll get more serious this fall if we have a season.
I hear Idaho F&G are meeting today to talk about setting a fall season--keep your fingers crossed.

DC RoxbyThis is good news! Been considering a move to the Boise area and one ofg my concerns was the effect of wolves on the Idaho elk herd. Hopefully things will begin to improve soon. Would love to shoot a wolf!

larrysravenr, don't be too quick. You may have missed the line:
quote:
Protections remain in place for wolves in Wyoming because of its shoot-on-sight law for the predators
That statement would indicate that protection is still in place in Wyoming until it changes the shoot on site laws to exclude wolves.

it will take some shuckin and jivin
by our new gov'ner but it will happen.
