KathiOnce in a lifetime sight

The attached article is from the Sunday Chicago Sun Times Outdoors. There is an absolute massive non-typical buck living in the Cook County Forest Preserve.
Some folks from long ago had the foresight to set aside 69,000 acres in the county for recreation and wildlife. Otherwise this place would be all concrete.
There are some really big bucks living just outside Chicago and they get hit by cars mostly during the rut. This is the biggest deer I have seen from here.

TWallI grew up in that area and spent some time in the Cook County park district parks. There are a lot of rivers and canals that create wildlife travel corridors. When I graduated high school my parents moved into a condo in an old apartment building. They were on the top floor/third story. From the kitchen they had a view of a large cemetery on the Chicago/Evanston border. This is about as landlocked as you can get. We regularly saw fox and deer in the cemetery.

georgeldBig alright, but, a buck like that needs to be culled before his gene's are passed along too far creating more crappy racks.
