Sonora Mule Deer
Have found very little discussion on these hunts on this forum.
Anyone else do it.
Well I am here right now. Unbeleiveable place (For me, a kiwi, anyway.)
Sea of Cortez then Desert then mountains full of Desert Rams.
I'm second day into a 7 day hunt and here is the result.

I'm absolutely rapt.

Absolutely wonderful hunt.

Incredible buck--congrats! Not to be monetary about it all, but to Ted's point, what is the pricing for a hunt there?

If getting a great muley was one of your criteria, you certainly have that covered!!!

Tracker,

GOOD FOR YOU!!!

What a great buck. Put a gun to my head and make me pick only one animal to hunt the rest of my life, and it would be mule deer. And that one, my friend, is a toad.

Did you say Bighorn in the mountains? Where are you hunting?

I leave one week after the SCI show to chase the Desert Dream ram outside of Hermasillo.

The rifle is a Pre-64 Winchester fitted out to .280 Ackley Improved. Using 140gr Nosler Ballistic tips.
The shot was running at 150 yards. I hit him quartering away and the Nosler did it's job very well, taking out the top of heart and a fair bit of lung. (Very explosive)
The Deer managed 50 yards or so before piling up.
I agree a spendy hunt circa $10K.
But what a wonderful place.
In the background is the Sea of Cortez.
The Mountains in the background are on the famous Tiburon Island.
Yes there are Desert Rams right here, huge ones.
I'm hunting on privae land, extremely well managed and not open to paid hunting, so a real priviledge to be here.
The Landowner has two Desert Ram tags leftover for thsi season 2009/2010.
I held one in my hand, just to feel what it was like..... Smiler
If I had a spare $50K I'd do it.
The Rams here are some of the best in MXO. They won't shoot one under 10 years old.
Amazing place.
I had no idea that the desert could sustain so much life, and all with virtually no water.
