<rman>9.3x74R.... any Info?
Just in the process of buying an o/u rifle in 9.3x74r, dont know much about the calibre. The rifle is a Krieghof, and comes with about 20 boxes of fresh ammo, and a 1.5x4 scope. Looks and feels great...but how effective is this round on moose and elk? Max effective range, stuff like that. Thanks

Saeedrman,
This information is from the RWS Reloading manual.
With 246 grain bullets max velocity is 2475
254 - 2409
257 - 2442
285 - 2277
293 - 2227
It should work fine for moose and elk at reasonable ranges.

<Made in Sweden>Just thought I would comment on the caliber. The 9,3x74 is a tad slower than the 9,3x62 Mauser but in my experience it will do just fine on both moose and elk. I like the heavier bullets (286s and 293s) the best, but I know of several who use the 258s with equally good result.

aHunterIn Europe the 9.3x74R is one of the most ( most ) popular chamberings for doubles. Lots of companies make ammo or brass. Seems this chambering is GAINING in popularity.
Try to get Winchesters Euro line: with 286 grs Nosler Partition. Norma and Sako also should be tops. For affordable ammo try Sellier and Bellot.
Have fun and keep us posted bout Your results Hermann

<Sauenjger>Hallo rman,
I can full agree with ahunters posting. It is very famous here in Germany to hunt wild boar or red deer and a lot tourists which hunt elk or moose in NA or Sweden use it with good success. And even at roe deer you do not have too big holes.
You get a lot of ammunition from different manufacturers. So it is a very good calibre, if you don't like to shoot on too long range. But for nearly 200 yards it is OK.
Good success with your new gun.
Have you had a look on the Krieghoff website? www.Krieghoff.com
Very good guns. What type of Krieghoff is it?

<rman>Sauenjager..I have purchased the rifle, it is a Franz Sodia from Ferlach. It has a 1.4x4 Nickel scope. Also, it has fully engraved sideplate that are removable, and a set trigger. There is not a mark on it..as new. The ammo is 258gr H-mantel by RWS. Is this a good rifle?

HonkeyI have a Chapuis double in 9.3x74r and I love it.
So far I have only killed one bear with it.
Check around on this forum, there are a lot of satisfied customers with this caliber.
