NebraskaThanks for posting that great pic! I'm very picky/critical when it comes to wildlife art but Browning has done a terrific job selecting the wildlife scenes on their safes and that elk is definitely my favorite version!

Outdoor WriterNebraska,
That photo above isn't the same one that was used for the Browning safe drawing; it's not even the same elk.

I won't have time today to look for the Browning one, but will look manana. There's another one below to keep you happy, though.
Sakofan,
The elk wasn't in Nebraska. Note one of the member's handles here. He asked about an elk photo in another thread going on in the African Hunting section. I figured posting it here would be more appropriate. -TONY

Outdoor WriterKK,
Dead on. In fact, I posted a message in the thread about names here to you, but this type message board system ain't too hot at letting members know they have messages addressed to them. That's why I rarely hang around them too long.
And you could have looked at the copyright notice on the photos!
Anyway, here's what I said:
KK,
First name doesn't happen to begin with Ker and last name with Knu, do they?
If so, we go back a long way. Think Outdoors Forum! -TONY And we're still going at

Bingo.
A long way, indeed. Lots of water under the bridge. I'll drop by All Hunting. Let's see about catching up.

Outdoor WriterSakofan,
These are the messages from the African Hunting section in the thread "Shoulder shots" that prompted this thread here. -TONY
From me to JJ,
Hmmm, regardless if you have a "pencil original" or not, the issue is who had the original original. The Robertson stuff appears to be photos, and every EXACT detail of the kudu in those photos are combined somewhat in the "pencil original" your guy did.
Heck, as you well know, anyone can make a pencil drawing from any other artwork, and since the Robertson ones include the background, my guess is those are the originals. Maybe your artist also owned the photos????
The photo at the bottom shows one of Browning's gun safes. The elk is an etching from one of my photos that appeared a couple years ago as a full-page in the NRA's AMERICAN HUNTER magazine. BUT..the well-known artist who did the pen/ink drawing and then the etching, respects copyright laws. Thus, he contacted me BEFOREHAND and paid me a fee to use it -- with my blessings, of course.
As someone very attuned to copyright issues because it's a big consideration in my full-time business, I like to make others aware of potential problems.
Take it for what it's worth. -TONY
From Nebraska,
Outdoor Writer -
I'd love to see that photo if you still have it. That's one beautiful elk!!!

Outdoor WriterNebraska,
Found the photo below on my hard drive. This is the same elk that was in the photo used for the art on the Browning safe. Enjoy!

Outdoor WriterNebraska,
Here's the biggest bull, at least by point count, that I ever photographed. I think he was either an 8x8 or 8x9. -TONY
