When Do NM Elk Rut
A friend and I are considering a private land ranch hunt next year in New Mexico. It will be in northern New Mexico about 40 miles from the Colorado border. When do elk in this area usually have their rutting period? It would be cool to be there for the rut.

From the end of August to the Middle October.
Prime time is third week of September.

That would be correct---was hunting in Mescalero the 2nd week of September and it was going full speed.
