FYI for Foreign hunters regarding borrowing guns to hunt with in the U.S.
As far as borrowing a gun to hunt in the States, here is a direct quote from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (our Gestapo):

quote:
"35. Q. I'm a nonimmigrant alien who is coming to the United States for two weeks to go hunting. Can I rent a firearm in the United States to use on this trip? What about if I want to go to a shooting range one day - can I rent a firearm there as well?

A. As long as you possess a valid hunting license from a State within the United States, you may rent firearms to hunt and to use at a shooting range. If you do not have the hunting license, your possession of the firearms and ammunition will be unlawful. The hunting license does NOT have to be from the State where you will be possessing the guns and ammunition."

The ATF's FAQ list is at ATF FAQ

In the State of Washington, NO non-resident alien may legally posses a firearm, for any reason.

He may purchase a hunting licsense, he just cannot use a firearm.

This does not stop a number of Canadians or other visitors from doing it and I have never heard of a case where a non-resident alien has been cited.

This raises the question of: "Does ATF laws supercede a Individual States Laws?"

Makes you wonder doesn't it!

Mickey,

You obviously have too many liberals in Washington state! Perhaps, immigrants from the People's Republic of Kalifornia???
While they are loath to enforce drug-use, murder, rape, robbery, burglary and auto theft laws, using a firearm for legal purpose would probably result in the full force of the 'justice system' being brought to bear against some harmless Norwegian who wanted an elk!

amosgreg,

The above only concerns Federal regs; they would not supercede local law.

Unfortunately this attitude preceeds any Kalifornicators moving here. In 1919 Woodrow Wilson referred to the '47 States and the Soviet of Washington'. [Wink]

There are some exemptions -- from the NRA state law brochure:

"It is unlawful for an alien to carry or have in his possession at any time any rifle, shotgun or handgun without an alien license issued by the director of licensing. The director may issue a license upon the certificate of the consul within the state who represents the alien's country, stating that said alien is a responsible person and upon the payment of a $55.00 fee, plus additional charges imposed by the FBI. An alien license is valid for 5 years. This does not apply to Canadian citizens who reside in a province that has reciprocal arrangements with the state of Washington. These persons may carry or possess weapons while hunting, competing in bona fide trap or skeet shoot or any other organized shooting contest..."
