cast bullets for hunting deer?
Hi
PMC loads 170 gr cast bullets in 3030. I wonder if somebody has tried this loads for hunting? please give me your opinion TIA

Danny. I'm not familiar with the cast bullet load you refer to, but on a hunch, you'd best check the velocity of that load. it may be a somewhat reduced load intended for the cowboy shooting matches that are so popular today.
You can handload a cast bullet for deer hunting though. Bullets like the RCBS 30-180FN loaded to 1900 FPS kill well, as do Lyman's #311291 and #311041, both of which can be loaded to full 30-30 power.
I have used all three bullets mentioned to take about 25 deer over the years, when hunting in an area I considered suitable for 30-30 use.
If those PMC bullets are close to 30-30 factory velocity, and the bullet is neither too soft or too hard, then they should work.

I agree, nothing wrong with hard cast bullets at full power in a 30-30. Shot through a doe end to end about five years back with a lee 170gr straight wheel weight cast bullet at 2100fps.
