Which do you prefer?
Excluding QD's which scope mounting bases do you prefer and why? Standard, Weaver, or Duel Dovetail.

Well my first choice would be either the Badger Ordinance base (and rings) or the Leupold MK IV base. They are both rock solid, but of course they are rather expensive too. With that said, I have also had very good service from the standard Leupold two piece base, and would not hesitate to recommend it(or the one piece)to someone. I have never tried the duel dovetail base so I can't comment on it.

I thin kthe best i have used so far is Conetrol,it used all four holes on the 300WBY and seems to hold the scope well

My current favorites are Leupold PRW bases and Burris Signature Zee rings.

No lapping, easy on-easy off, and always mechanically centered. Life is good! FWIW, Dutch.

I agree with Dutch. I have had the best luck with the Leupold and Burris brands. I like the standard style 2 piece. Looks good, no lapping that I have needed, easy to mount and good customer service. The dual dove tails are the strongest out there. I was told to use them when the first 30/378 came out on the market. Harder to mount because you have to get everything lined up. The best way is to have the two "sticks" with the ends to line everything up. (They are great for any scope mounting).

Have fun

Gentlemen

I like talley mounts, but Leupold dual dovetail are good and I had great luck with them.

I have been looking for conetroll mounts, but haven't found any, soo I can't really say anything about them. They seems to be allright

Well based on the sum total of one set of each I would rate Warnes more highly than Talleys. The Talleys gouged the tube of one scope whereas the Warnes had such good tolerances I was able to fully torque the rings, realise I didn't like the reticle, take the scope off and take it back for exchange 'no it hasn't been mounted' style.

Check out Talley's new ring/base combo ( bottom ring and base are machined as one). they make them for the model 70 and 700 in low and medium configurations. I've got a set on the way for my model 70 and I'll tell you how they work out.

My $.02.

I like Leupold two piece, turn-in, reversible bases with low-as-you-can-go Millet rings. Matte finish. [Smile]

I shoot some heavy boomers with heavy scopes. My preference is Leupold Dual Dove Tail. [Wink] Good shooting.
