.308 derivatives???
Hi all

I have been checking out a couple of the local gun establishments and have run across a new (to me anyway) round that has prompted a question or two.

I noticed that Ruger has a rifle in .260, which in and of itself is not a big deal but it prompted a little research.

Question 1 Is the 25-284 winchester a derivative of the .308? I assume that the .284 winchester is.

Question 2 Is the .284 winchester a derivative of the .308?

Question 3 Since the 7mm-08 is obvious, what is the case dimension difference between the .284 winchester and the 7mm-09

Question 4 Does any regular manufacturer of firearms chamber the 25-284?

Thanks

I'm surprised that your research did not lead you to a loading manual which would have answered these questions in 10 seconds.

Ques 1,2,3, No, the 284 and the 308 are not related. The 284 is .030 larger @ the head and .020 larger at the shoulder. The only similarity is that the rim dia. is the same.

Ques 4: None that I've ever heard of.

The factory-produced cartridges that are derivatives of the .308 are: .243 Win, .260 Rem, 7mm-08, and .358 Win. There are also numerous wildcats in just about any caliber below .358". The most popular at the moment seems to be the .338-08.

everyone notice that I am being nice.
the 308 is a .473 case, and is an original(we'll ignore the 8 mauser and that lineage)
it's been cut up and down

the .284 is a shortened and rebated rim 404 jeffery. It's a neato case, and, after awhile, it's also an orginial.
they are only about the same length, but the 284 holds about as much water as an '06
