Desert Big Horn sheep hunt sold for $92,500 today!

Hi Folks,

Just back from dinner at the Wild Sheep show in Reno. The main auction of the night was a desert bighorn sheep hunt on Tiburon Island, it sold for $92,500!!! I cannot help but say our Marco Polo hunts in Kyrgyzstan are dirt cheap in comparison. Hunt one before they get to $90,000 or you cant do them at all!!!! Far more exotic than Tiburon Island too........

Desert bighorn are not my favorite of the American sheep, but for some reason I like all of the American sheep better than the Marco Polo.

Don't get me wrong, I like the MP but I would rather take any of our American sheep over a MP.

Negative! Those MP's are beautiful!
I do have to agree that the desert sheep aren't the prettiest. I wouldn't even consider one if now for the slam.

Jbrown: I think your own signature line is the point that reddy375 was making.

The older I get, the less concerned I am with killing a trophy animal, and the more appreciative I become for the whole experience, warts & all.

After all, if it's adventure I seek, then I'd better be prepared to roll with the unexpected!

I might be off a little but I counted 16 desert sheep permits/hunts sold at the WSF show. They went from a low of $32,500 for a hunt in Baja Mexico (Navaho Nation tag also went for 32,500) to a high of $160K for the Arizona tag (the New Mexico tag for either desert or RM bighorn also went for 160K). The highest tags were 300K for the Montana bighorn and 250K for a BC sheep tag.

I can't afford these tags, but I'm glad someone can since all of that money gets put back into the sheep programs.

Don't know if you remember me but we met our booth, eastern chapter Wild Sheep Foundation. It is amazing the price swing with desert sheep hunts. I have hunted the area in Baja that sold for 32.5k that was a good deal. I have also accompanied a friend to the Biosphere last year. I agree with you that international are better deals. azerbiajan is a perfect example. Marco Polo is on my short list. Maybe we will talk about it.
