Sika call
Are there anybody who knows something about sika calling?
I'm using a Primos call http://www.ishop.co.uk/ishop/859/shopscr217.html, and make it say like the screaming sika on http://www.deer-uk.com/deer_Sounds.htm.
All that I am sure off is, that it is VERY loud, but does it work?
And if it don't, what shall I do then?

Greetings..........Sren

Soren,

Welcom to AR!

I have not tried calling Sika myself but i have heard them and yes they are loud! I have heard of people calling them successfully with a variety of DIY calls but not this one. Most are squeakers removed from kids squeezy toys although one guy claims to call them using a washing up liquid bottle! Don't ask me how as it was "secret"! [Roll Eyes]

Anyways, if you post this question on the European Hunting and or the Oz/NZ hunting forum you might get further answers.

How close is the call to the sounds on deer-uk?

Regards,

Pete

Hi Pete,
Thank you for your advice about the NZ and european forum.
To my ear the sound af my call come fairly close, byt with a bit of problems with the low sound in the start and the end of the call.
I was afraid that the call is too loud because a friend of mine could hear it clearly 350 meters away and "got the fever".
This buck was shot last weekend in our huntingarea. http://www.falkensteen.webbyen.dk/billed.asp?PrivatBilled=2799075

Soren,

Nice stag! I have only stalked Sika one or twice an dwas not lucky...In the UK they have a reputation of being our most difficult deer to stalk and also for mbeing quite tough...

Why don't you post the picture here? Simply post it in the following format but leaving out the spaces:

Hi Pete,

The sika has the same reputation here in Denmark. But the one on the picture just walked 35 meters and was quite dead.
I post the picture this way because I haven't had much succes with the codes. The link is form our hunting societys homepage.

Soren,

I certainly would like to try stalking sika again, but there again there are not many game animals I would not like to stalk!

Regards and good hunting,

Pete

The Sika call certainly is odd on first hearing it. Olt make a Sika call, but the best are hunters who are able to call with their voice and cusped hands. The call sounds like you are saying "be-air". Or "beeeeee-airrrrrr" where the "be" is lower and the "air" is higher. For hunting difficulty Sika are comparable to Whitetail for elusiveness, but unlike Reds have a curiosity that is often their downfall. I have a great Sika hunting video, they are popular to hunt in NZ.

Hi Soren - the hunting video I have is indeed Sika Safari, and it is fantastic if Sika are your thing. Let me know if you want it posted across for your viewing pleasure (so long as you get round to posting it back!).

Hi Tikka,
I would be very glad [Smile] if you would post it for me, and I will of course return it. I send you a PM with my adress.
I had contact with a firm who would sell me one, but I havn't heard from them in about 14 days.
