Alaska Airlines Regs
Greetings,
I have tried looking for the AK Airlines webpage that covers their transport of meat, fish, antlers ect. Believe it or not one of their reps wasn't able to help either.
If anyone has this bookmarked or knows the URL it would be a big help.
Thanks,
RR

Roger,

I didn't bring back any fish or game from a trip to Alaska, but did have quite a bit of gear. I also watched/overheard others that were bringing back fish and meat.

You are alloted something like 65 pounds of luggage, in up to two checked bags. Anything beyond this can incurr a charge, depending on the check in agent. I got charged on the way back from AK for less baggage that traveled free from here in CA.

Basically you are going to pay an additional $50 for every extra box you bring back. There's some sort of size limit on the boxes as well, you can't have a single 200 pound box. Most of the people bringing back fish were using boxes provided by a packing house, and there weren't any raised eyebrows. It sure seemed like business as usual.

Looks like since 09/11 they changed a few things. They used to allow up to 4 rifles and now only 2, also they've reduced ammo to 50 pounds from 80 pounds. Crap.

I found it by going to Horizon air and then under travel FAQ.

Roger-

If 80 pounds of ammo isn't enough, you might want to consider forgetting the hunt part of the trip & concentrating on the fishing!

Well if I get 50 pounds of ammo I might just have enough to fill one or two of my tags. Even with my shooting I expect that might be enough. I do expect that you meant 50 ROUNDS. Good hunting, "D"

Nope, no typos. Rats! The absolute final word is 50 pounds of ammunition and no more . It does have to be packaged in its original package. I was seriously considering heading up to the Noatak River basin this next year to hunt caribou and perhaps bear, but now, well, with the reduction in ammunition to 50 pounds, I may have to reconsider my plans.
