After applying for a New Brunswick moose tag twice and not drawing I’ve decided to look else where for a 2006 moose hunt. What I’d like to find is a hunt for a moose in the high forty to mid fifty inch range, basically I’d be thrilled with a 50†moose, and keep the price at 5k or less. To do this I’ve been looking at Alberta and have found Red Willow Outfitters. Anyone hunted with them? For that matter, anyone you’d recommend for that size moose in that price range?

Outside of Alaska, where moose hunts are getting a tiny bit on the expensive side, your best chance for a fifty inch moose might be in British Columbia. There are a number of very good outfits that have good moose populations. If you want a fifty incher, be prepared to hold out for one.
I shot a fifty three inch moose with BC Safaris in 2003. It is a true wilderness horseback hunt. Cost is a bit more than your $5000 limit, though.

This September, I hunted bear with Tukii Lodge, near Smithers, BC. They do have a bunch of moose! There was a ninety-seven year old guy there when I left. He got one.

Perhaps your best bet would be to get the services of one of the booking agents who post on these boards?

We've got some nice moose in Northern Manitoba. Seems they average in the mid 50's range. You should consider this as an option.

Outside of Alaska,yukon,the northwest territories, and northern B.C.,the chances of a 50" moose drop considerably.They do exist but they certainly aren't available in great numbers..

Don't know if you would be happy with a Shiras moose, instead of a Canada or A-Y. Apply in Idaho or Wyoming, and with an outfitter a 44-46" bull would not be unreasonable. Bob Barlow kills some great ones out of Alpine Wyoming and a couple others guide here in 66/66A/76 in Idaho. For that matter, heck, if you can draw in any of the units near me, I'll take you for free also.

What kind of prices? I'd love to shoot a 50"+ monster. I normally get calf up here, good meat, but I want an impressive skull mount!

The Selwik area is a draw area, chances of drawing are around 40% It will cost you around $3000, It is the best moose hunting in the world.
