sputsterRe: Solid evidence on .243 and it's adequacy on deer!
If that's true, then my brother-in-law doesn't know what he's doing. He's a wildlife manager at an airport, uses a (legal) suppressed .243 to put down the dearies, so as not to upset the neighbors and passengers. Says they drop like rocks if the bullet is well placed.

Plinker603This evening another deer fell to my paltry .243, and it only went 40 yards. The bullet went through the heart and both lungs. The second lung was minced bad and it also took out upper leg/shoulder muscle on exit side. It wasn't necessary to follow blood to find it.
I want even more evidence, though, so i'm waking up early tomorrow morning and going hunting again.
