Former Colorado State Trust Lands in Alamosa and Saguache counties are now owned by federal agencies and are no longer open to the public for hunting.

The properties, the Medano state trust lands, Baca state trust lands and San Luis Creek #2 state trust lands, totaled about 34,000 acres. The properties had been leased by the Colorado Division of Wildlife. Hunting was restricted on the properties and allowed only to a limited number of hunters accompanied by a DOW hunt coordinator.

The properties, which were adjacent to Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve and the Baca National Wildlife Refuge, are now owned by the National Park Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

They will continue to be poached heavily by the locals as they have been for years. Most of the "valley" is hit hard this way.
Too bad legitimate access is now a thing of the past, I never heard this one coming did anyone else see it on the radar?

I think we will see a lot more of this happening across the country in the next few years.
