BoghossianNice! Was it a spine/neck shot? Good shooting from any range!

Andre MertensWhat a nice way to get gored ! The head of the stag was still moving when both guys approached (from the front and without carrying the rifle at the ready...)and started pulling at it. I remember a similar incident where I came to a "dead" stag from the rear (good) side. I was standing over him and had also started toying with the antlers until I saw his eye blink. I reflexively jumped backwards at the same time the antlers swept up, brushing against my belly and tearing off a button of my coat. As I had "intelligently" left my rifle against a tree, I grasped an antler, dropped on the neck to pin it down and slid my knife between the first vertebrae, working the blade sideways until all shivering stopped. Then, with him quiet, I started to shake. Lesson learned since...

JohnAirHi Bog,
It was a 300 win to the neck. He went down pretty fast didnt he? Obvious broken neck to any practiced eye. (as you so noted)

JohnAirHe is Danish, and one of the nicest guys you could meet. He was down here last March with 6 other Danish hunters. I think his name was Mogens, he is a butcher by profesion.
