Hot CoreCongratulations on a fine Trophy! Nice flicks too.

Surely that is not a (rag) 270 rusting-up, laid against the Deer?

Bobby TomekThat is a superb trophy in anyone's books! I especially like the heavy mass the buck carried throughout the length of the main beams. Congrats!

Now, to echo Louis' request, how about you fill us in with more details?

ted thornI'm not much of a story “typer” I'm a better talker but here it goes.
I hunted a new farm this year just south of Queen City Mo. It is 50 acres of cut soy beans but it has a creek bottom that is about 200 yards wide and 1/2 mile long. The creek bottom is fed by 8 or 9 fingers of woods and is just thick as can be with 6 foot tall horse weeds and briars.
I hung two stands, one in the North end and one in the South end of the property then I just played the wind.
Saturday morning went by with two sets of does slipping through the weeds and disappearing in the bedding areas in the bottom. At 8 am I did my first rattling sequence. I hit em pretty hard for about 30 seconds finishing off with a loud snort wheeze. I then started watching all around and in just a couple minuets I seen a set of horns above the weeds. He worked his way to me looking for the bucks until he got about 50 yards away. He stopped and started feeding on something and when he dropped his head I shot him. He ran hard, tail down and through the creek before dying in the creek. I found 2 buck sculls in the creek bottom. One was a 9 pointer about 100” or so both the other was a HEAVY 10 that I scored 147” WOW!! I will take a picture of the big scull and put it up soon.
I shot 3 does, 1 Saturday evening and 2 Sunday morning from the other stand and am looking forward to hunting there next year.
I used a 7-08 with 140 grain Accubonds over 43 grains of Varget. He grossed 132 BC.
Thanks for the kind words guys, I am tickled with this buck.

SnellstromOnce again nice buck Ted but what the heck with the 7-08? Did you give up on the tried and true 30/06 and the 3-9 Leo?
Just givin you some grief I too have deviated from the norm in recent years. If I had to give
up a bunch of guns I would still go back to shootin everything with my 30/06 and a 3-9 Leupold.
19 November 2010, 05:18
ted thornNo not at all Snell, I loaned my 30-06 with the 3x9 Leo to my best friend last week for our deer season. I'm going to kill a cow elk with it this December.

oupaTerrific buck but what I'd really like to congradulate you onw is your photos!

No (or at least very little) blood, no tongue hanging out and most of all your rifle with bolt open and not pointing towards you. We're all guilty of ocasionally taking photos in the excitement of the moment that later reveal less than flattering things but conciously taking the small bit of time to make sure we avoid such things mentioned above will produce a much better photo to memorialize your acomplishment.
From one "Ted" to another, Mr. Thorn my hat's off to you. Great photo and great buck!

Oupa,
It has taken me years to take good pictures of deer and each year I get a bit better....if I kill any deer

I use a short pointed mono-pod and a digital camera with the self timer function to take pictures in the woods. It takes allot of pictures to get just a handful of good ones.
As far as the tongue goes....I grab it, give it a pull and cut it off.
