On the weekend of the 17th , five of us hunted the Hungry Horse Rance in Torrance Co ,New Mexico. The hospitality was exemplary and the hunting was good. The outfitter was Magnum Guide Service. They represented the Antelope to be very good since the place had not been extensively hunted. Of the 10 animals taken by five men and three lady hunters, the smallest was 15" and the largest over 16.5". The larger goats may well be book quality.
The photo is my goat, taken at 450 yds with a 264 Win mag and factory Winchester ammo. It is the longest shot I have ever made or attempted.
The length was 15.5" with good mass and a nice curve. I'll probably never hunt Pronghorn again and this hunt was worth the effort and expense.

At this moment I really don't remember what it was. It was no bargin hunt but it seemed reasonable for the quality we saw and the service given.
I'll look back at the checks and total it up and let you know.
I have some pics of the other goats taken I'll post here that are nicer than mine. I left them off because I'd never posted pics before and didn't really know how it had changed.


Bob is right. I'll never forget that shot. It was quartering away and it dropped about 10". I had aimed at the topline of the right hip thinking the crosswind would carry it about 3"left. That was pretty close and it hit him through the top of the scrotum, nicely dicing the right testicle and them going on into the abdomen and exiting behind the diaphragm. In the process it eviscerated him.
It wouldn't have stopped a Whitetail in his tracks but the antelope stood there for 2 or 3 min and then went down with another shot in his neck.

Doc, I happen to be a friend of the owner of that ranch and I'm glad to hear that ya'll had a great hunt. The ranch is great and there are some nice bucks to be had.....congrats!

The folks in New Mexico couldn't have been more hospitable. The history lesson was worth the trip.

The additional pronghorn pictured here were shot by Jerry (the big guy), Don and Chobee (dressed-hanging). Jerry's shot was made from 311 yds with a Winchester Model 70 in 270 Win.This one measured over 16.5" with nice mass nd great shape.

Don did his ususal thing and played like a pile of brush and waited until the critter came within 125 yds and shot him with a Kimber 270WSM. He measured right at 15".

Chobee hunted hard and took this goat late in the day-almost dark-at 425 yds with a 257 Weatherby. It measured 16.5".
