Texas Pronghorn Antelope Hunt Report
We had an excellent pronghorn season. We acquired a couple of new ranches this year that proved to be great hunting. We had 8 hunters this year and all 8 got their antelope. The average score for all 8 was 77 and the average height was 14 7/8 inches. The smallest buck scored 72 6/8 and the biggest scored a whopping 84 1/8 and was 16.5 inches tall. This antelope is the largest buck we have ever killed on the ranch. I will let the pictures do the rest of the talking.

There are some nice antelope in those pics. I'm curious if you know the average range they were taken at, calibers, etc...

Very nice. However, there is a serious problem for the antelope population. Good bucks, but very few fawns were seen this year. Usually this is due to a persistent drought in the Trans-Pecos area and the fawns die of malnutrition, but not this year. Biologists, working at Sul Ross State University, in Alpine, are studying blood samples taken from this year's harvest and are finding a parasite, the "barber pole bloodworm." It is tiny--about the width of a human hair--but devastating to an animal's health. There's not a set solution to the problem. TPWD reduced the number of antelope permit this year and some think there might not be a season next year.

TPWD has posted this on its site and it now is being shared elsewhere.

This probably won't apply to the Pan-Handle, there population is doing fine.
