300 WM AND POWER POINTS???
Has anybody had any experience with the W-W factory 300 WM loading with the 180 Power Point?
I have become the owner of a quanity of them and they shoot quite accurately. Being an NP/Swift fan I have not shot the Power Points before but see no reason that they wouldn't be fine for animals no larger than a big mule deer.

I would like to hear from anyone with first hand experience with this loading.

I shot a farm cat with the 180 gr PP from my 300 Win Mag. It seemed to have great penatration. [Wink]

I've shot moose, deer, and bears with the PP's in my 30-06. I'm sure you will be fine.

Mark,

I shot the power point plus in Africa and took 10 animals with it. It shoots extremely well in my Model 70 300WM. I did notice on a couple of the animals,(a Heartabeast& a Wildebeast) it shed the core and the jacket ended up under the hide on the off side. I think I will use a better constructed bullet on my next trip.

I use the 165 gr. Hornady Interlok in my 300 Win Mag but used the 250 gr. Corelokt in my 338 Win Mag on an elk last year with excellent results. I think these will work fine.

Remind me the 1st of June, and I'll report how they work on Plains game.
I have some factory 180 gr Power Point Plus for my 300 Win Mag I want to try.

In the 300 W S M, we have used the regular PP on Deer etc,and they worked just fine. They seem a bit soft to use on a Moose though.

Shot a 140 lb spike in the shoulder at 30 yards with a 180gr PP out of a 300 Winnie. Deer dropped on the spot, but no exit wound. Only found small fragments only. No way I'd take this bullet to Africa for large plains game. jorge

Shot a good sized spike bull elk with a 180gr power point a few years ago. Broke a rib going in and stopped just under the hide behind the shoulder on the other side, perfect mushroom. Bull ran and piled up in less than 50 yards.

Shot a smallish red stag in Scotland with 180 PP's a couple of years back. Stag shuddered at the broadside shot, then turned away from me. Tried for the last rib but pulled the shot, and hit the left hip. We didn't do a full autopsy since we had to drop the carcass of by the side of the road for the forester to pick up, but the hip was smashed pretty good, the stag went for some 40 meters down hill, laid down and never got up again. We never found the first shot on the body, neither did the butcher, as was reported by the forester...one of life's misteries I guess.

Bought the 180 PP's again for black bear.

I've had tremendous success with the .300 Win Mag, Winchester supreme's loaded with the 180 grain power point plus.

I've taken 6 species of N.A. game with them including big critters like elk, caribou, brown bear and moose.

In Africa, I've taken 15 species of game including a 2000 lb eland.

I think if you do your part, the bullets will do theirs.

Shot a buck angling away at 30 yards with .300 win factory 180 grain power points. In right rear rib, out front left shoulder. Buck limped fifty yards and dropped. I was quite suprised. A tiny hole going in, and a tiny hole going out. I expected that powerpoint to expand a lot more, especially at 30 yards.

I assure you that you will not wound a deer that has been properly shot with a 300 and the power point regardless of what the bullet does, it will kill him if properly placed..I have used them a lot in the 308 and 30-06 and never a problem..I have used them in my 300 H&H and never a problem...On elk I will use a 200 gr. Nosler.

I agree that if a bullet blows up or seperates inside an animall it is not the optimum result that one is looking for, but it will surly kill a deer and plenty fast...A 180 gr. 308 will never blow up on the hide and not penitrate enough to kill a deer or antelope, that is 22 centerfire stuff and maybe 6mm...
