Pecos41Giant Scopes on Hunting Rifles ??
Steiny - I don't own any scopes big enough to be on your "offensive list," but what I find bizarre is that you would rank them as a "Pet Peve."
What will offend you next week? Red cars?
Live and let live, lad. If you don't like these big scopes, don't get one! I suspect you've never owned such a scope and so it's natural they seem ridiculous to you. But don't wrinkle your nose just because you've never tasted something.

dan belislePete, thanks for the answers. 1894, again I apologise. I seem to always say the wrong thing to you, don't I? I didn't mean to offend. The reason I asked about the hunting over there is that we do a lot of work with the EW&S, and so far castling and museums were my big British attractions. I think a few days hunting would be a very pleasant side trip. Thanks again for the info. - Dan

Dave JamesDoesn't make any difference to me what you all use, most of the swamp hunters down my way are into the bigger is better mode right now,I'm still using the old redfield 2x7 I pick up in the 60's.
Pete E,those little guys look just like some we shot in Vietnam one time, and they had a bark also

1894Ray,
I'm not talking of a huge variable just the UKs most popular 6x42 which I have never had a problem with and I stalk 5 times a week except December and January.
Dan,
I can't recall you've ever offended me or said the wrong thing - not hurt just putting a different slant on it. I wouldn't turn down a roe or fallow for a muntjac!

DUKWhen we hunt feral hogs at night, a 8x56 mm Zeiss scope is quite handy and makes a big difference, even in comparison with a variable 50 mm scope. Besides driven hunts, hunting at night over bait or near a corn or wheat field is about the only way to get these intelligent critters...

Pete EBob,
They are one species I have not had a chance to stalk as they are confined to realively few areas and I believe the stalking is therfore relatively expensive...
Dave,
Yes,I beleive they are present all around Asia, in fact only a couple of years back a "giant" form of Muntjac was discovered in Vietnam...
Dan,
If you want help sorting out some stalking in the UK, drop me a mail and I will help if I can,
Regards
Pete

<Gary in Ohio>I use a 8-32 x 50 on all of my centerfire rifles.
When I finish load development I switch to a 1.5-4.5, a 2-7 or a 3-9.
