33806whelenAny Vermont Moose hunters on here?
Applying for a VT moose permit. Can anyone tell me what areas the Northeast kingdom comprise? What would you suggest as areas of preference?
I appreciate any input from experienced Moose hunters or just people that know the states areas as far as the Northeast Kingdom goes.

Kamo GariI assume VT's lottery is like NH, where you select WMAs of choice, in order from greatest to least desirable. If so, the same picks would apply for me, with the NE Kingdom/St. Johnsbury region at the top of my list, and moving choices in a generally top to bottom fashion. I spent a lot of time up there for a lot of years hiking, camping and fishing. There are *lots* of swamp donkeys up there. While I won't say it's a surefire slam dunk, if you draw that region, you're doing really, really well out of the gate. The towns of Granby, Victory and a few others I used to frequent were loaded with moose. If you get a tag, look up a dirt road called Gallop Mills Rd. I can't remember many, if any times, while in the bush up there that I *didn't* run into moose. I drew NH's D1 region two years ago, and had the hunt of a lifetime, but it was no cake walk. I got him on the 80th hour of the hunt, in insane weather and rugged going for about every minute of the chase.
Hope that helps,
KG
