Ackley Improved UserPhotos from recent Aoudad and Desert Mule Deer Hunt
Aoudad
32" by 31.5"
13.5" bases - lots of mass.
Body ~300 lbs.
December 2013
Jeff Davis County - Texas. All free range, 104,000 acres, low fence, private ranch.
Desert Safaris Outfitter (Hunter Ross), John Hamill guide and taxidermist - Battle Creek, MI
Guns: 300 Win Mag (180 gr NBT) at 128 yds for the aoudad, and 30-06 AI (165 gr. NBT) at 75 yds for the mule deer. Texas heart shot for the aoudad - why not, I'm in Texas. Neck shot for the mule deer.
~170" SCI gross. 13 points. He had a "kicker" point growing through his left ear - it must have hurt. Not B&C, but a beautiful set of antlers with mass + character. Although there are exceptions, the average desert mule deer tend to be smaller bodied and antlered than the average Arizona/Nevada/Utah/Idaho/Colorado mule deer.
