270Model70Jeff,
How many years of trying?
I'm envious as heck.
So you didn't actually get a tag, just points.
Eddie Arnold summed it up,"Welcome to my world, won't you come on in?"
I don't know anyone who drew this year.

4214chipJeff,
Do you have the max on preference points for sheep?
I got LUCKY this year.

Finally drew a nonresident Bighorn tag in Wyoming after applying for 24 consecutive years!!!!!! I am still in a state of shock. My summer will be filled with scouting trips to look over some of those beautiful rams. Now if I can just draw my moose tag there...
Don't give up on applying. This is one place where persistance will eventually pay off for you.
Chip
Chip,
What area did you draw? I've got area 4.

4214chipSBT,
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR SHEEP TAG!!!!!!
How many years did it take you to draw your tag? I drew area 5. I was on a spring black bear hunt with a guide friend near Encampment, WY when his wife checked the draw results on their computer on Monday. I think the entire valley must have heard us screaming when we saw that I finally drew. Watched a few small bears on the hunt that I could have shot, but mostly in the 5 foot range. I'll head back up in a few days to look for a bigger bear. The trout fishing was great, and saw alot of wildlife while setting/checking baits. Even saw some moose and bighorns. A great trip in a beautiful state.

I drew the first time I applied as a non-resident back in 1972. Then, after moving to Wyoming, I have applied every year as a resident for the past 22 years. It took a while, but I am very fortunate to have drawn two WY sheep tags in my life!
Area 5 has a great reputation for good rams. Best of luck to you!
RMK
Yeah, I was just playing on words.I saw (with green eyed
envy) that SBT and now Chip both drew a tag.I have only recently begun to apply for sheep.I always thought forget about the draws...
But somebody has to pull a tag!You have to play to win.
I did draw a Gila wilderness elk tag a few years ago.So it
pays to try.
For our two lucky applicants...Congratulations.I sincerely
wish you both the best of luck. And I hope you kill the
rams of your dreams.
But don't feel too bad for me.I'll be hunting dalls this
fall in my favorite state, Alaska.

4214chipJeff,
Thanks for your good wishes for my upcoming bighorn hunt. Good luck on your dall hunt. What part of Alaska will you be hunting? When are you going? I have hunted dalls in the Brooks, Alaska and Chugach ranges in Alaska. My best ram came out of the Alaska range on my third hunt in that area. The last two years I hunted mtn. goats out of Cordova. Those were tough backpack hunts for an old man.
Alaska is by far my favorite state also. And up there most of the bears run from people. It will be different hunting in an area where some of the bears seem to have no fear of humans.
Keep applying for those tags. You are correct in saying that someone will draw them. I never thought I would. Again, GOOD LUCK on your hunt in the GREAT LAND...Alaska!!

4214chipJeff,
I hunted mtn. goats with Dennis Zadra, Lonesome Dove Outfitters,
http://www.ldohuntak.com/ Dennis is a hard working outfitter that knows how to hunt goats. The country is very steep, but you should get our goat if you hunt with him. He is 100% for several seasons, including archery hunters. Last season, 3 of his nine goat hunters killed B & C goats. Mine was not one of them, but I was extremely happy with the one I did get. Check out his web site when you have time. He hunts the goats from late September into October. They have very long hair at that time of the year.
If you don't mind telling me, I'd be interested in who you will be hunting sheep with this fall. The Alaska range has some stunning country to enjoy.
Hope your lab had a good swim. Have a great weekend.
