a pictures worth a FREE RIFLE
i sent this photo into Hunting Illustrated
and they put it in their magizine last issue.
at the time i was just thinking it was a good picture of a great speed goat.
just got a email from Kings World, the owner of H.I. and they told me that they have picked it as one of their Kings Camo Photo winners.
they pick 4 per year to use to advertise their
camo patterns and in turn the winners recieve a Howa Axium in the caliber of your choice!!!
so then i called Kings World and spoke with David King as i thought maybe one of my partners was pulling some hijinks,he assured me it was on the up and up and congradulated me on a great antelope and winning the rifle.
i was speechless,i'm one of those people who have never won a raffle or the likes and still can't believe the good luck dancing dancing
has anyone else ever won a rifle???

Legistine actu quod scripsi?

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.

What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

Ravenr,

Congratulations! Nice pronghorn too. Smiler

Yup ... winning a rifle is the experience of a life time. Was for me. I lucked into the Ottmar rifle that was raffled off here a couple of years ago. I was speechless and frankly unbelieving until I talked to the raffle organizer. Didn't quite believe it until it showed up at my dealer!

Again ... Congratulations!

That is a stud goat. Although RavenR probably shoots one that big every year!

Congrats on the rifle. What caliber are you leaning towards? I am sure it is not a 25-06... you already have one of those. Haha

Good deal on the gun; you lucky, lucky bastxxx.

Winning a gun is much better than most other prizes; feel good every time you put your hands on her.

Won a few over the years at Raffles. But my favorite was from a local coon hunters club back east; never part with her either. You got an even better story to tell, again good deal.

thanks for all the congrats
the largest caliber available for
that model is a 308, and would be my choice.
not enough coyotes and varmits around here to warrent a varmit only caliber, so....

MC, no big goat for me this year as i didn't draw a tag.
but i did draw the #1 late season bull elk tag and i'm
hoping to have a monster bull to show everyone
in november.
thanks again all

I won a CVA Firebolt Ultramag inline muzzleloader with both the .45 and .50 caliber fluted barrels in a 52 week-er raffle at a local gunclub. I never owned that type of muzzleloader before so it was a welcome addition.

Congrats on getting your photo published.

Hey way to go nice picture and nice Antelope!
With an upcoming big Bull hunt this year I figgered you'd be looking for a 25/06 or a .243!

Alright that was uncalled for.......

Congrats on the photo recognition.
I won a .22 Remington rifle in a raffle on another forum a few years back and have bought about a thousand raffle tickets at the Elk and Sheep banquets over the years but never lucky.
I have a bunch of rifles so I'd rather get lucky and draw a Moose tag ! (or Desert Sheep or an AZ strip tag)

That is a beautiful goat.

To answer your question no. I never win anything.

I have entered every local gun club, shooting orginization, kids sports team, rugby team, Friends of teh NRA, RMEF, you name it raffle and contest offered me for over 20 years now and I have so far won a sum total of squat.

And ya know what who cares. Sure I would love to win some of the rifles and other schwag you guys have won but if my donation helped that kids team or club out hten I consider it money well spent.

Now I am nto sayign I would complain if I won Searcy's rifle or Aaron's hunt if they draw my name though. LOL

Nice Goat! What did you get 'em with? You should include the weapon with the pic so we don't have to ask questions. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I won a MZ from the NRA a few years ago. It was a suprise to come home from work and find it on my porch. Didn't know I had won it or even remember buying the chance. Called everyone I knew to try to find if some kinfolks had had one sent to my address but finally opened the box and found some NRA literature with a phone # and called it and they said I had won.

God Bless, Louis

Look closer. That orange is not a collar. It looks like a lanyard for ear plugs.

i do love the quips about the 25-06
and stand firm in my convictions.
and be honest enough to add that i
won't be packing one this fall. Wink

Howard, being the beanpole next to the goat has its plus'
have you ever seen a grow man hi-centered on his own belly?
it isn't a pretty sight! ha

i shot this buck after a 4 day pursuit with a
7stw,i missed him and a albino doe,the first day of the season, then killed him with a 450yd running shot and shot the heart out of a doe
at 450 on the 4th day. go figure
Doc,the orange is a heavy duty, ear plugs for chainsaws and heavy equip. super light weight and pop in ina flash

Great antelope and congrats on winning a rifle. I often win firearms at the local SCI Banquets/fund raisers, we have 3 different ones in Chicago area. Of course my wife will tell you it would be cheaper to just buy a new gun as opposed to all the money spent on tickets.

I would rather win how you did with a photo of a great trophy.
