Most of the Barnes literature says use light for weight bullets. Has anyone used the 130 gr bullets in a 30-06 for deer? If so what loads and velocities are you getting. Thanks D

You can get into some tricky seating depth problems in some rifles with bullets less than 150 grains. BUT, no question about it, the 130 will smoke any deer from your .06.

I'll call my bear hunting buddy. Thats his bullet of choice in his 30-06 for deer/bear. The 130 gr TSX is as long if not longer than a Hornady 150gr.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner..His load for the 130gr TSX in his 30-06 is 52.3grs of IMR-3031 Velocity out of his Rem-700 22" tube is 3100fps. As always work your way up to this load.

No doubt it will work and no doubt I would go with R15.

I used to shoot R15 and 125 NBT's for lopes and deer and it worked like a charm.

Thanks for the replies. I will try Re 15. Looks like the mid 50's is the top end. I will give it a whirl and see how old Lightning likes it. If I get a chance at meat I will post results.

OKShooter let me know through e-mail that using Re 15 it should top out at around 57 gr. I have some 130's loaded 54-57 and will try those out at the range today. I will post for any interesed parties.

In my last 06 tube (21") it would run 3200 with the 125 NBT with 57/R15.

I'd start at about 54 with the 130 and work my way up.

Went to the range yesterday 54 gr gave right at 3000 fps and4 shots in a pile and one an inch to the right(pulled that one a bit) 55 gave about 3080 and about an inch and a half. 56.5 gave 3175 and about 2 1/2 inches. I am thinking the 3000 fps load may be enough. No recoil to speak of. When rifle season opens I will give autopsy reports. I hope. Have a good one.

D, right now I'm using the 150 TSX in my 06 and using 61gr H4350 am getting 3002fps quite comfortably.

I bet those sre fun to seat Chuck. Are you crimping? Are you just neck sizing? I'm having a good bit of compression w/ 60 grains of H4350 and the 150 Partition Golds and the 150 XXXs are a bit longer. I'm PFLRing Remington Brass. It's spitting them out at 3000 from my 22" tube and groups are ok hovering around 1" and sometimes less but, they open considerably at 200.

How are the 150 TS shooting for you?

My 308win spits out 130 tsx's at about 3100fps out of a 24" kreiger tube.
I use RE-15

RL, they shoot very well and very consistently. No suprises from one day to the next. The powder is compresses a little, but have not found it to be an issue. I don't crimp, and have even set a few aside to see if they "grow" and they don't. Might be the boattail helping things out a bit.

I have no doubt that I can get more velocity out of mine but it seems that they shoot better out of my '06 at less than max velocity. I have a friend who reloads however and his idea is to get to the desired velocity and then play with seating depth to dial in the tight groups. Do any of you guys have luck with this method?

D Hunter, I do pretty much what your friend does. As an aside, the 150's are very forgiving when it comes to seating depth. The 165's and 168's are not.

Re15 is a viable option for the 30.06 and 130 TSX.

Range info from weekend. The 150 gr bullets were scary accurate with at least two different powders. IMR 4064 put the first 3 into one hole. The next two opened up to about an inch. H 4350 put four into one hole and the fifth about half inch away making the group about 2/3moa. Velocity was not as great as the 130's but I am not sure the deer will know the difference. With 4064 I did get to just over 3k. 4350 gave about 2865fps. The 150's may get the nod. They are more available also. Good hunting. "D"

The 130gr TSX in a 308 win or 30-06 is pure hell on wheels for most big game. I have heard reports of guys using that bullet in said cartridges for moose and getting full broad side penetration. While i would use it for moose it would kill any deer, antelope, caribou, or black bear like greased lightning.

Barnes #3 manual, lists a max load of imr 4064 @54.5grs and 3,261fps in an 06', but remember you can usually go 1 to 2 grs over max with the TSX as it lowers pressure with its grooves. Win 748 55grs max produced 3,343fps now thats really hummin, and would smack down stuff real quick.

I've been shooting the 130 X bullets out of my 300 Wby Mag, I'll post back when I get to the house with some loads that have worked well.

130gr TSX in my 300WSM gets 3495. I ging to see how it does on a elk in Colarado on Oct 20.
