headed in with the sun in the morning.
4 days of fishing and scouting, wyoming moose season opens for archery on the 1st.
wish me luck and we will see you back here on the 7th.
lookin for a monster, but godzilla will do....

Best of luck. I am sure you will find one that makes you have the "feeling". I spent a total of 5 seconds looking through the spotter on my Utah shiras, that was more than long enough. Just something about "monster" moose.....
I just can't get ahead of the point creep to draw my WY tag. Maybe they will keep my $$ money within the next 5 years (before I have to spendit on kids college).

ravenrfella's i'm running short on time
have to leave within a few hours for n.mexico
the tales will have to wait a bit
but here are a few photos from the trip.
spent 6 days "in country" solo
as my partner had a sheep to kill and needed the ponies to accomplish this.
had plenty of scouting to do and my plan was
to build a meat pole at the moose if i got one killed before he got back.
6 days of wandering around the back country
10 miles away from the trail head.
took my other heeler for company and bear
protection.
he needs alittle work as he let me walk past a griz at 20 yds and lucky the bear was a "good" bear and when i finally spotted him at 70 yds
he went the other way.
lots of bear sign.
but i'm getting ahead of myself, so enjoy the pics and i'll get caught up on the stories
in a few days. safe travels.
a clean tight camp
10 days worth of grub
tryed to keep the mountain cleaned up,but failed
plenty of griz company in the area
but i came prepared
lots of scouting and even found a few
looking up county
looking down country and the "weak link".
took the dog and the pump 12 with me and also packed a sat phone, case i needed help.
alone nights around the fire and the WHOLE
mountain to myself... does it get any better??
sheep,elk,deer,moose,bears,fishing,raisberries
good weather and even a "lucky" clover to
top it all off with.
thou i came out without a moose on this trip, i was content with the
results. enjoy and safe travels

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.
What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

i've set my sights pretty high with this moose
tag, and came off the mountain empty handed again.
this is a shed off the bull i was chasing this
last few days.that was picked up last spring.
he had been seen just 2 days before i rolled in
and i spoke to the cowboy who was working that lease and he said the bull had been there all summer with a smaller 35-37" kinda bull.
to say the least i was pretty excited about the information.
the elk were in full swing rut and the bulls sang us to sleep ever night and when ever you would wake long enough the hear the wrangle bells on the mules and horses, they would still be carrying on.
i saw the smaller bull 2 nights ago and hoped for a sighting of the big guy, sorted thru 3 other moose and snuck thru alot of dark timber
the last 3 days during the heat of the day.
told my partner to turn his radio on if he heard a shot or series of shots, cause i had either a bull or a g-bear.
never got the chance to pull the trigger and the only g-bear i jumped in the dark timber went away from me as fast as he could from about 15 yds away.
THAT will get your blood pumping!
the moose are starting to get excited about the ladies and i fear the big bull went on a walk-about, but was still a great time on the mountain with a dear ole' friend of mine who is also a hunting guide, so we get to spend very little time together this time of year.

He left all of us in eastern Colorado, and like 24 hrs later, he's texting me pics of a big moose? I didn't realize Wyoming was offering high-fence moose hunts?
