SpringGunnery Calvin Foster will be on TV with the gun given him by AR--video attached
Many of you went way out of your way a few months ago to help a US Marine, Gunnery Sgt Calvin Foster, replace one of his guns that had been stolen. As you may recall, Foster is a great outdoorsman, a combat-tested Marine, and a fine family man. He never asked for any assistance, but many of us felt honored to step up and help this fine Marine replace his deer rifle before the season started. He was stunned when he learned what his fellow Americans, mostly guys that he would never meet, had done for him when a new rifle was presented to him from the guys on AR.
Starting on Thursday morning of this week you can see Calvin and his AR gun hunting on the Outdoor Channel. He'll be on the show,
Ultimate Outdoors, on Feb 11th at 7am EST. This episode will be on again on 2-12 at 1:30AM, 2-13 at 7:30AM and 2-13 at 11:00PM.
At the same times the following week this show will feature US Marine Cpl Owen Kyler from Kentucky, who will be hunting with a rifle given to him by a particular AR member.
AR does a lot of things for all us in regard to sharing info and friendships, but this week you'll see an example of how our online association has done a mighty good thing for the guys that make our freedoms possible.
Vic
Both of these guys are hunting with new guns given to them by AR members:

SpringIt was great to see the Marines on TV and I think they explained the hunt very well. Calvin looked good and they even focused on a his gun a good bit as he told how he got it. I chuckled when he implied the many donors had "loaned" him the gun, as he carefully considered the policy of the USMC on Marine's getting large gifts from citizens. Glad Calvin is enjoying his long-term "loan," though it might be special if he did pay it forward to another young hunter one day.

JudgeGWho was the fat guy with the moustache?
I think the Gunny missed his calling. He would do well as a host on a T.V. show. He has a great media presence and speaks clearly and articulately.
I was there, of course. Calvin was asked to sit down and talk with no preparation and was just speaking contemporaniously. What a good job!
We should be proud to have such men (and we had a WM there, too) willing to devote their lives for us and be willing to go into harm's way so we can sit on our butts at 7:00 a.m. and watch t.v.
JMHO... and thanks to you Vic for letting me be a part of it since the beginning!
JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

Not surprising. You probably won't find many Gunnery Sergeants who are cowed by news media functionaries, and darned near none who can't express themselves well. And that's USMC. In the USN, it's even better!

SpringOK...here's Calvin's hunt. Get in line for his autograph early and often!

Matt NormanVic, is there going to be another segment aired later this week? Do you know what the schedule will be?
I saw some of the 'Legacy Firearms' in the first clip, donated from several A-R members.

Slowpoke SlimI didn't see this in time to catch Calvin's show. Thanks for the link to Youtube. That was great to see. I did set my dvr to record Owen's show. Thanks for the head's up.
And thanks again to JudgeG, Vic, Matt and everyone else for what you're doing for these fine young men. It makes me proud to be associated with you all.
I'm already looking forward to next year.

Matt, here's a
link to the show that has their schedule for this coming week. As you'll see, the next episode will be on the following dates (EST): 02-18 at 7:00AM | 02-19 at 1:30AM | 02-20 at 7:30AM | 02-20 at 11:00PM
This next episode will feature Cpl Owen Kyler. I was hunting with him when he shot his deer and we were in the condo stand (below) which you should see pretty clearly on TV. BTW, the farm was covered in snow last week, something you see often, but we don't get but every 20 years or so. We ran around like total idiots.
A bit different than when you were here with the Marines?

Matt NormanHere is the second segment that is currently on the Outdoor Channel....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EjNkBUvb0gHats off to Vic as he made all this happen.
He's a class act. God bless the troops that put it on the line for the rest of us.
