slim buttesAustin Hunting opportunity
My wife will be attending a conference in Austin. in June. Is there an opportunity to hunt pigs that time of year relatively near Austin. I live in NW Nebraska so a couple hr. drive is reasonable to me.
Thanks in advance.

icmcuminThere are MANY opportunities to hunt hogs and varmints in the Austin area while you're there in June. One place you can check is Craigslist for Austin, San Antonio and Houston (among other places) for a hunt that suits you.
Just remember it's going to be very hot - even at night - at that time.
Good luck!

slim buttesI was afraid of the "hot" part. I have always wanted to hunt pigs, I like to see new country, but as a elem. teacher summer my summer schedule is more flexible.
If anyone has some specific places to contact I would appreciate it.

icmcuminIf you don't mind traveling a little bit, suggest you call Terry Haun -
http://haunranch.com/ He is just outside Cuero, which is 2 or 3 hours ESE from Austin. (If you go stop for a meal at Don Bravo's in Cuero - order the Don Bravo #1.)
I've hunted and harvested hogs, turkeys and varmints there. Terry runs a good operation.
Exotics are also available. Just something to keep in mind.
Check out the Texas Hunting Forum as well. Usually around this time of year you'll start to see people posting specials for hogs, axis deer, and the other odd exotic.

icmcuminFound a couple of placed on Craigslist. Don't know anything about them, but they both have a 512 (Austin) area code. The second is in San Marcos, which is a short drive from Austin. In any event, good hunting!
