Desert bighorn in the area but the draw is a tough one (like all desert bighorn draws).

We hunt pigs year 'round but we're about 6 hours west of you.

Get a German Shorthaired Pointer and a nice new Beretta so you can pass the time hunting quail and chukar while waiting years to draw a big game tag in NV. Big Grin

You will find decent bird hunting in NV and you're close to CA and AZ where there's quite a bit more.

There's also enough big game opportunities in the states surrounding NV to keep you busy.

There's plenty of hunting in the state, but you aren't just gonna go out and get a big game tag.

You could get a small game license for some small game, birds and varmints, but Nevada is one of the hardest states to draw a good big game tag.

You can not buy any big game tags over the counter for Nevada. Everything is a draw and the odds are long for most of the tags. Lots of Nevada residents hunt Utah, Wyoming and Colorado because of this.

Let's see, I have 16 bonus points for sheep, 4 bonus points for deer, 7 bonus points for goat, 8 bonus points for elk, and 6 bonus points for antelope. And didn't draw a single tag in Nevada last year. Should pull a Unit 10 late deer tag this year though, although that's what I said last year too.

That's why we hunt Africa in the summer, antelope in New Mexico in Aug/Sept, deer in AZ in October, ducks in Louisiana in Nov, and deer in Texas in Dec. And why we also play the drawings in Arizona and Wyoming.

Nevada Resident tags are just a bonus, if they happen. I will say that my best elk (355" 6x7), antelope (16.5" 81 B&C), and mule deer (29" 4x5) all are from Nevada.

If I ever drew everything I applied for I'd have to quit work and take out another mortgage. Wink

Like the others said, there's doves and quail and coyotes, plus a few wild pigs up around Mesquite to keep body and soul together.....

NDOW manages for quality. I lived in Reno for 3 years and didn't draw a single big game tag. The only over the counter tag is lion.

Chukar hunting was amazingly good. IMO, the Vegas area is less attractive than the north. Extremely productive predator calling there also.

My pref points tell me I should be drawing a tag soon.

Nevada is a great state to live in, and hunt in if you get drawn.

If you get drawn.

Is it still possible if you are willing to pay the freight to buy a landowner permit? I know guys who did this regularly for years and up until very recently. Don't know if it is still a possibility.
