Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but this one gets the most traffic. Anyway, I just got my new muzzleloader from ultimate firearms and I bought a swarovski 2.5-10x42 AV for it. Now, the guy at UF said that they had had some of these scopes on their guns and it broke the reticle. I dont know if this is a fluke or not, but I thought the AV and the PH scopes were built the same. So now i'm worried that I made the wrong choice here. Has anyone ever had this happen or do ya'll have any suggestions? Thanks a lot......wapiti7

I've no personal experience with the AV but own and have owned many 30 mm PV (PH in the U.S. ?). I never had any problem with .300 WM, .338 WM, 9,3's whose recoil is more brutal than a ML. I even know a dented Swaro that still functions perfectly.

There is a difference between the AV and the PH. The glass is basically the same, but the AV uses different kinds of spring gizmos for reticle adjustment than the PHs that are not as robust. John Barnsness penned a few articles specifically addressing this issue. I "think" the problem's been corrected in the newer AVs, but look at it this way: The AVs cost about half of what the PHs cost. jorge

Jorge may be right, Swarovski use patented opposing springs to back up the clicks. The PH series have always had these and so does the present AV (I checked). However, I'm not sure about the initial AV.

I have avs on both of my 300 ultramags,and have used the older models on a 375h&h and on a 338x8mmremmag.Each rifle has fired hundreds of rounds with no problems at all.
