drummondlindseyNM Oryx question
Has anybody here ever hunted for Oryx off the range? If so, who did you hunt with and how was it?
I would love to see some pics with some #'s as I am thinking of doing this hunt.
Thanks
Drummond
Drum,
I hunted on the range and wandered off the west side. I asked around about "off range" hunting and the local guys said it was the same as on the range just a few less animals. The biggest thing I noticed was a large number of the oryx had lost or broken horns. The biologist on the range said it was due to diet, that the horns just are not as tough as the ones in the Kalahari. I would sure ask about the quality of the horns and what percentage have lost horns in your off range area.
The fees in 1998 were about $1000 for off range animals.
Good luck, they are fun to hunt.
It is fun, but hard for a resident. The cost is minimal. For a non-resident I would not do it. The Oryx have seen a few hard hunting years, and they finally have them under control off the range..It would be too much of a crap shoot to pay that kind of money. It costs the same on-or off range, so as a non-resident I would whole heartily recommend ON-range

drummondlindseyThanks for the responses guys, I will let you guys know what I decide to do.
I know I could buy a landowner tag off the range and for some reason I really want to kill a big Oryx in NM. If I go off the range I could hunt sooner rather than later.

BadboyzIf you get an off-range tag that is not ranch only, P.M. me and I will give you a spot that most people are not aware of. It's well off the beaten path and I have some really nice ones.
