I got drawn for archery this fall, but I used a service and for some reason they lost my unit preference and drew me in units 1 & 2. This unforunately is not where my friends unit is, his is in 15, and he guided outfit fee for me was $0. He has consistently takes 158-185 class deer over the last 3 years.

So, now I need to find a relatively low cost guide or outfitter in units 1 or 2 to justify doing the hunt. I have had prices quoted in the several thousand dollar range for 140 class deer. I can get these for free in Texas. So, it's a tough call if I even use my tag.

Suggestions?

Unit 2 has excellent deer hunting. I'd get a free copy of the walk-in hunting atlas from the KDWP (free access public hunting) and quit worrying about outfitters. Small town motels are cheap out here. Just make a scouting trip and look the walk-in areas over BEFORE the season starts.

I'm also going to contact some outfitters that were recommended me and see if they will do an even trade for all expense guided fair chase Axis or Aoudad hunt as well - guaranteed.
