With all the accusations and references about peoples intelligence as of late, out of curiosity, why do any of us hunt deer.What do you, as an individual consider the most important reason why you hunt deer?Chance to spend time in the outdoors, quality or size of any deer killed is peripheral.To obtain some fresh natural meat, free of steroids/growth hormones.More interested in the trophy aspects of hunting, meat is of minor importance or unimportant.Grew up with deer hunting as a family tradition. Enjoy the meat but also enjoy killing a decent buck from time to time.

I picked the first one, but the second one is just as important to me. I worry about what all is going into my children these days.

While I'm a meat hunter the additives personally are a big consideration But that's getting much more important for all, especially kids .For example GM corn fed to animals mimic estrogen and the animals become sterile !

I’m just your average 30 year old something guy from California that loves hunting. I try to hunt out of state, 2 different times/ 2 different places a year; and I always hunt at home when deer season rolls around. All my hunts are DYI on public land with drawn tags. I like to check out new areas and hunt wild animals on their native grounds. I’m not a true trophy hunter, but I will always choose a bigger deer over a smaller one. This year I had a huge 4x4 and a forkie on a ridge. Couldn’t get a shot on the 4x4, and had a clear “no problem” shot at the forkie. I passed on the guaranteed deer and tried for the 4 pointer. Ended up getting busted and lost both. I would do it again today. I have no problem for putting in for cow hunts instead of bull tags, and I butcher all my own meat.

For me, hunting is about being on public land in a national forest or wilderness area hunting wild animals. It’s about getting out in nature, not going to a farm.

I started deer hunting as well as other game (turkeys, rabbit, quail, and varmint) at an early age. I've only hunted elk the past couple of years. While I like the meat I take when hunting. I absolutely love hunting and whether successful or not, just being in the outdoors makes a hunt successful. Taking game is a plus.

I hunt deer for food, but...
I'll shoot the bigger one given a choice, but...
I enjoy the quiet and tranquility of being outdoors, but...
I was raised with deer being the only big game and still recall the great hunts with my dad, grandfathers, uncles, brothers and the sounds of the hounds.

That pretty much sums up why I enjoy hunting. Killing something is always a plus when I go on a hunt, but sometimes it just does not work out that way. In 2011 I went to southern Arizona on a Coues deer hunt I was hoping to get a shot at a legal animal, did not have to be book quality, just a legal buck. It was a learning experience, and I did learn some things that have me looking at going back and having a better chance of connecting with a buck. Maybe it will work, maybe not, but I am willing to try it again.

My wife and I both like to eat game meat, so we have no problem putting in for doe/cow tags. Many folks do not understand why someone would be willing to drive a long distance just to kill a doe/cow. It is the same country as the bucks/bulls are hunted in, they are usually better eating than a buck/bull, the licenses and hunts are usually a little cheaper and usually not as hard due to less restrictions such as antler size/number of points. Also with the exception of the moose I shot, I am happy with the bucks/bulls I have shot and really don't care if I ever kill anything bigger, except a moose.

I simply love being outdoors and if I can be hunting or fishing, so much the better.

I hunt strictly for trophy bucks, five and older. I eat every one I kill. I also kill a few does to eat and a buddy gives me a few more. In all I put 8-10 deer a year in the freezer.

I enjoy the scouting, building food plots and other preparatory aspects of deer hunting.

Who doesn't just love sneaking up on a trail cam, trying not to take your own picture, seeing you have a bunch of pictures, and getting your card reader / computer/ camera out right then and there to see what you captured digitally?
