Uproar over plan to delist Yellowstone grizzlies

A proposal to drop endangered species protections for Yellowstone’s grizzly bears has triggered growls of disagreement among environmentalists and scientists over what is best for the future of the species.

The delisting proposal covers only the bears in the Yellowstone area. If the grizzlies are taken off the threatened species list, it would no longer be against federal law to "harass, harm, pursue, hunt, shoot, wound, kill, trap, capture, or collect" them. It would be up to the states to regulate "taking" of grizzlies, which could include hunting.

Liberals believe that criminals are just like them and guns cause crimes. Conservatives believe criminals are different and that it is the criminals that cause crimes. Maybe both are right and the solution is to keep guns away from liberals.

Like most of the couch potato vote now a days the bears will have to eat a few tourists and unfortuantely a kid or two and then they'll demand action. Probably to fence off a special area just for grizzlies. As far as I know though you can't hunt in Yellowstone proper whether the species is protected or not. In fact you can't even possess a firearm in the park.I spent two weeks hiking all over that park severals years ago and frankly it amazed me that a tourist a day wasn't killed by something. Some people really believe that Yellowstone is a petting zoo.

Luckily, most people realize PETA are a bunch of morons....but, I do not believe the Grizzly in and around GYE is anywhere close to being ready for delisting.

Grizzly bears should have been delisted 5 years ago. Bears are showing up in places they haven't been in the last 70 years, someplaces have chronic livestock depredations, and anyone who has lived around Cody or Dubois are aware of all the problems with bears being close to homes (sometimes inside!) and urban areas. All the suitable habitat (at least in Wyoming) is saturated. The only place bears have left to go is in those places where they will get into trouble with people and livestock. Unfortunately, folks here won't tolerate that.

I just love poll's like that one. It seems like a great idea to those folks who don't have to live with the problems associated with big toothy critters. Don't get me wrong, I like bears but maybe we could ship a few east and see how well those folks fair.

If they are hunted just a little bit, there will be much more respect for the upright ape and the grizz will fare better in the long run. If they have no fear of humans there will be much more human/bear difficulty. Good hunting. D
