This is most certainly a good idea, but it was pretty easy.

When the horse has been eliminated, human life may be extended an average of five or more years.

Cool test. It wasn’t difficult but I’m sure plenty of hunters have trouble passing it because they don’t know much about bears.

Not always as clear cut in the field unfortunately. No mention of claw differences in either test.

I have take both and passed them.

On dark over cast raining days with wet bears, in the same color range, in the brush.

Can make ID a bit more problematic.

If one has doubts it is best not to shoot.

Washington has had that for several years. Not difficult test if you know even a middling about bears but not every hunter does. So yes I think it’s a good idea too.

Aced it but I agree in the field it would be more difficult. I think the ears are the most notable difference.

I find the identification to be easier in the bush, never had a problem between the two that I recall.I think the test used the same old yelloow faced black bear! Eeker

Agreed it can sometimes be difficult.

I think what a test does is to try to teach the hunter to look for the differences between the two they may not have been aware of.

Besides bear Washington also has a mountain goat test that’s required if you successfully draw a tag. The purpose is to identify male vs female goats. Now that test is really worth taking.

Around here, even if your guide makes a mistake, you're the one that would be charged.
