Seamus O'GradyWhat Are Your Favorite Oddball Calibers?
Alright here's the premise, come up with your favorite oddball calibers that you like for varmints on up to brown bear. Just doing this to see if something surfaces that I just must have!
1. .221 Fireball
2. .264 Win. Mag.
3. .300 H&H Mag.
4. 8mm Remington Mag.
5. .404 Jeffrey
Citius, altius, fortius

olarmyMust be an odd-ball kinda guy. All the cartridges that I use most could probably be classified as odd-ball.
225 Win
257 Roberts
257AI
25WSSM
264 Win Mag
270WSM.
Sorry, no need for brown bear medicine.

DwightI was once odd also. A very long time ago I killed 20 deer with a 225 Win before it starting shooting bad. I bought it used and I did not get much out of it as far as a lot of rounds anyway.

Now now now. Deer hunting with a 225 Win. There will be a few people come on here and tell you that you can't kill a deer with a cartridge like that.

Shooter973The closest I come to Odd-ball is 7.62x39 out of a Bolt action rifle!! Other than that I shoot about 90/95% cast bullets, in most calibers!!

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

My only comment would be that they just don't have much experience as a hunter.
While not necessarily an "odd ball" by the standards of AR, my present pet is the 7x64 Brenneke. The ballistic twin of the 270 (given the same bullets) but with wider bullet selection. The identical twin (almost) of the 280Rem but pre-dating it by about fifty years.
All in all a sweet little round!

ThaineIf by oddball you mean it is not in the current realm of popular cartridges, then these qualify.
218 Bee - Win 43
219 Zipper - Marlin 336
22 Savage HP - 99 Savage
25-20 Win Win 92 Rifle
25-35 Win - Win 94 carbine
33 Win - Win 86 takedown
All used occasionaly with a 22 Newton (Mauser actioned) and a 228 Ackley (Springfield action) waiting in the wing for me to play with.

Which is still an oddball in the U.S., except for the small group of weirdos on this site who own one.

I shoot 6mm-284 in Remington 700, 6x45 mm in Savage 24V, both ends of the spectrum...

That could be one thing. My thoughts are no matter how experienced they are, if they can't kill a deer with a .225 or similar cartridge they just can't shoot.

Bobby TomekMy favorites of the oddballs all happen to chambered in Contender barrels, including a 6mm-.223 (6x45), 6.5x30-30 AI and 7mm Bullberry. These 3 handle anything from vermin & varmints to deer, exotics and hogs. And, all are superbly accurate, a requisite for any gun or barrel to find a permanent home in my safe.

NEJackNot really mine, but a friend of mine has an 8mm Lebel that his great uncle took off a dead German in WWII. He has shot a few deer with it, but it mainly sits in the case and gets polished every once in awhile.
I have often wondered how a French WWI rifle ended up in the hands of a German soldier in WWII.

I just gave the .375 Win up a couple years ago as I had started using a Mod 600 in .308 for the same situations. Nate
