NickuduA great read, Mate! You're a good writer and a mighty fine judge of music too!

Matt, the young fella in the article, uses his all the time. We hunt in some nastie place's such as pandanus swamps and areas with tall grass and Matt out shoots us most of the time. I have a 6.5x55 sporter that I use as well but for the swamps I grab my little verguiero. I've never been one for a shotgun myself and most pic's in the Aussie gun mags show rifles, but the do have a following in "tight country".

Thanks mate, for my first effort I'm very happy with it.

http://ezine.nitroexpress.com/200307/Bakes/ItWasntLikeThisLastYear.html Shows an old ex-mil 8 mm can still kill game
If I get to venture up North next year, I certainly hope there is no country music fanatic in the car for the four day trip!
PS Do you like the wall paper on the story
PPS Bakes if you put a square bracket [ on the front of the script by editing your first post, it should work OK
Love the wall paper, its very well done!
I bought that rifle for $180, scraped off the old varnish and found a nice peice of wood underneith.
Love that gun!!

Tombo21Nice, sounds like fun. Seems like where ever the game is plentiful the walking is a stone bitch. Hmmmm............I wonder if there is a connection?

<richard powell>So interesting !!! One more excuse for this grizzled old redneck to make a trip up to the Northern Territory sooner than later ... Sounds like a hell of a place for those who care to shoot flying bats !!! Would they have more meat on them than doves ???

Great story,
Had me on the edge of my seat.......I'd sure love to let loose with a 12 Ga. on all those bats !
Fella's alas the bats are protected. And if you eat them the smell come through your skin and you stink. Some aboriginals still eat them and look out when they walk past you

Garys Defender, (which he has since sold) has to be the most uncomfortable 4x4's I've been in. Having said that it a bloody tough truck. The suicidal wallabys gave it a hiding though, denting in all the doors in a head long assult at nightime.
Here's some more pic's of bats taken on my base. We have a plague at the moment, they are crapping everywhere and destroying the tall tree's around the place. One even latched onto my Mother and scratched her, now she's have injections for a virus similar to rabies, in fact part of the rabies family.
