Huge Bull Elk!!
Does anyone know anything about this huge bull elk? From what I've been able to gather, it was taken this year on the White Mountain Indian Reservation in Arizona.

I recently recieved an e-mail with the same picture. Rumour is the bull gross scores 505"!!!! Could very well be true. I have had the current world record non-typical at our RMEF banquets. It scores 456" (net) and it didn't look as big as this one!

Here is the content of the e-mail I recieved....

"This bull was taken on the San Carlos Indian Reservation in Arizona. It's green score was 505. If the score holds up, it will most likely be declared a new world record. There is, however, some controversy surrounding the elk. B&C is supposedly investigating the legality of the kill before considering its entry into the record book. They think (?) it might have been called in electronically. No additional information on that allegation is known at this time (except by those involved in the controversy). Regardless of B&C findings, big is big and antlers are antlers. even if it tripped on a banana peel and broke its neck you can't make the animal less majestic.
The Shipsey bull"

I can't vouch for the contents, but it is interesting.

Actually, Mike Shipsey's (see photo below)9x10 is a 475 point Boone & Crockett taken on the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation in September 1997. And, like with all potential world record heads, there was considerable controversy surrounding that bull harvest.

The bull in the above photo was supposedly harvested this year (2001)... but so far, I've been unable to gather any more information on this bull.

That bull would not score 505 green and if it did I want to see the official score sheet. He might go 450 green, but give me a break it is big but not 505 big

Mr Mike,

Thanks for posting that picture and story. I hadn't heard of it.

I did just notice something though. If you look real close at both bulls, I am positive they are one and the same. They are both 10x9, the first three points on the right side (our left) are close together (which is unusual), and they both have large stickers off the fighting tine (#4). The shadow in the small picture also shows the same configuration of points on the left (our right) antler.

Whaddya think?

Actually, it isn't 3 tines close together...the 2nd tine (bez) forks on both sides, in both pictures. There is no question in my mind that is the same bull.

So much for that being the new one just shot in Arizona. We'll have to keep looking.

Canuck,
What are the chances of the tag being in the same place?

Canuck & Others,

You know guys, you might be right. . . Upon closer scrutiny, it does in fact appear to be the same elk rack. You gentlemen certainly have sharper sets of eyes than my ancient ones!!!

Thanks
