Swift A Frames / Mule Deer size animals???
Has anyone had any experince with Swift a Frame bullets on Mule Deer size animals. I'm shoot 96 grains RL 25 behind 180 gr SAF in a 300 RUM. I use this bullet due to the large population of Grizzlies in the area. I was wondering if this bullets will just go right on threw(sp) a deer and not due much damage.
Foof for thought.

Thanks.

I've shot lots of game with 180 gn SAFs. From reedbuck to mule deer to bear to kudu. Never had a complaint.

Half the time I find the bullet on the offside under the skin. In those cases the thing is usually a picture perfect mushroom.

In the case where it passes through, the hole on the other side has always indicated full expansion.

It's a great bullet and you work had to find better. Equal maybe. better? I doubt it.

Steve,

I also have shot quite a few animals with the 180 SAF in 300WM. Through the shoulders the animals usually just hit the dirt. A straight through lung shot usually resulted in a 50-75 run. It's a great bullet. I even killed a big lion with it very easily.

+1 to whats already been said. My experience is in a .300 H&H at 2950 to 3000 fps but on four elk. Two bulls, two cows. BANG....flop. end of story.

On the other end of the state here in Monatana, like FN over in Cascade, I have gone exclusively to 180 SAF in my 300 H&H, also around 2950 fps using IMR 4350. It puts them dead right there for mule deer, antelope, black bear, mountain goat, and varmints. Good 'nuf.

I have used Swift A-frames in 30-06 and a .375 x 74R for white tail deer, red deer, and elk. As long as the impact speed is 2000fps or higher, the bullet performance is always perfect, any angle, any distance, any animal.
