I want to go on a black bear hunt this fall with my 308 norma mag.I have some of the reloads from rifles previous owner on a box it says his load was 64gr of 4350 pushing 200gr nosler partitions with rem 9 1/2 primer
What i'm looking for is a good load for black bear should i stick with his load or do you have any you can share i have a box of 200gr partitions so that is why i was thinking of them but open to suggestions

D99That sounds like the ultimate black bear load in 30 caliber.
I would use that without hesitation!

snowmanTbear I've had several 308 Normas over the past 40 years. I have found that IMR 4350 is very good with bullets up to 180 grs. For the 200 gr I would suggest 4831 (IMR or H) and you may want to try RL22. Some 308 normas had a lot of freebore and would handle some pretty heavy charges compared to rifles with shorter throats. If your rifle handles 64 grs of 4350 with the 200 bullets start @ 65 grs of 4831 and work up.Go with what ever your rifle shoots the best.

mstarlingBullets are superb for the purpose. You may get a little more velocity with the IMR 4831 ... but the bear won't care!

AtkinsonI have been shooting big game with the 200 gr. Nosler for years, its the only load I use in my 300 H&H..Never felt like I needed any other load..I have shot elk, deer, most African plainsgame including Eland and even shot a Cape buffalo with it one time as I just happened to have it while hunting for a particular Kudu, and up jumps this really nice Cape buffalo so I used what I had, He ran about 75 yds and died, about what I would expect from a .375 or 9.3x62.

PhilRI'll be hunting black bear this Spring in Montana with my .30-338 and 180gr. Northforks over 66gr. IMR4350. A super bear load....especially if it's a reach. Your 200gr. Partitions will do the job nicely!
