I'm going to apply for the drawing this year for a buck. I received the application and will send it in but I have a couple questions. Are any zones better than others, or can you suggest one? I cannot afford a guide and have never been to Wyoming so it will be an adventure. Any suggestions? I have a Quad if that makes a difference. Also I'd like to hunt one of the zones that opens in September because I'm in school when the others open. Thanks for any advice. MOA

I believe our regs will require either a guide or a resident companion in order for you to hunt here on public lands.

MOA: You don't need a guide, except for hunting in wilderness areas. You don't want to hunt deer in those areas anyway. Those areas have horseback access only for the most part.

What part of the country you leaving from to get to Wyoming. I hunt there every year, Iwas thinking maybe we could split expenses and make a trip.

The western part of the state has decent mulie hunting if you do your homework and footwork also. Be advised the latest word is the mulies are dropping like flies in Wyoming. E-mail me for more info. I hunt Wyoming sometimes, still waiting for the elk draw results and what ole'man winter does to the deer herds. sure-shot

Clarification - There was a disease that affected white tails in Wyoming. The mule deer population has not been affected to my knowledge. I own a small place in NW that I grew up on - over 40 years knowledge of it. There were fewer nice sized bucks this winter, but that could have been due to the mild weather not bringing them in from the hills as early. As far as where, depends on how you want to hunt. In the bad lands, you might have to drive hundreds of miles to see a deer unless you know where to look. On the river bottoms, you might have to have a tree stand to get more than a glimps. The best areas to actually fill a tag are public lands next to fields away from heavily wooded river bottoms.
