Opening Day Alabama Gobbler
Saturday, March 15, 8:30 a.m., Jackson County, Alabama, 21.5 lbs., 9 inch beard, 1 inch spurs...

I killed this nice gobbler Saturday in the mountains here in north Alabama, up in what we call "billy goat country".

I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.

That's a nice bird. The terrain looks just like some of the areas in PA.

Great bird and I had no idea AL had any country like that! Our season here in MI is also a good month or more away with lots of snow to melt yet before we get started.

Beautiful bird! I just bought a second tag for the third week of May. Our season doesn't begin for another month, but now that the snow is disappearing in this end of the state and the sandhill cranes are back, spring and turkey hunting now seem like more than a theoretical possibility. Can't wait!!

I'll brag a little here by saying that in Wisconsin that's a little smaller than average. A mature tom here usually runs 23-25 pounds. The fist one my son shot weighed 27. He was only 11 at the time and when he slung the bird over his shoulder the head reached down past his knees.

Andy - Great bird and start to the 2014 Season. Is there any property near you for sale? With the Whitetails last year and now this, thinking maybe I should move in next door to you, and let some of the magic rub off?

Our Season here in NM doesn't start until April 15th, so have a few weeks to go before getting in the woods.
