InstructorRemington Mod. 700 6mmRem. caliber???'s
Soon to acquire subject rifle and all my experience has never included either the 243 or any of he 6mm's. Older ADL version with 9 twist barrel I understand and looking for any experienced users of this caliber. All feedback appreciated.

squeezenhopeThis is a great cartridge that is one of the excellent crossovers between varmint rounds and small big game. I used a .243 Rockchucker extensively, shooting bullets ranging from 75grains to 100. The Rockchucker is almost identical to the 6MM Rem. Great coyote round and works just fine on whitetails and antelope. If anyone tells you otherwise move on.

Jerry HooverI have used a6mm for the last 20 or so years. If deer or similar quarry are what you are after, use quality bullets and stress shot placement. The 6mm/.243 have been touted as ideal beginner's ,kid's, or lady's guns. The recoil and muzzle blast are light and tend to promote less flinching and better shooting. Other pundits say the 6mm are experts guns as they are marginal for deer, pronghorn, etc. I have shot several deer, pigs, and black buck with my 6mm and never lost one. I use either 100 grain Partitions or Barnes TTX. Although I have not yet tried them,a Swift Scirrocco would be more than adequate. I would hesitate to use a 6mm on elk, but it would probably work on caribou. The 6mm makes a superb coyote rifle and as long as the volume of shooting is too high, prairie dogs at long range are fun. Given these parameters the 6mm is a gem and a delight to shoot. It ain't the way it used to be, but it will do. Jerry Hoover

fla3006I have several 6mm Rems, FN Deluxe, Sako L579, G33/40 custom, Ruger #1. My favorite round for Texas game. Never owned a 243, maybe 100fps slower, just as good.

InstructorAppreciate the feedback. Won't use for deer or any similar game, primarily just for shooting targets and coyote hunting w/ the lighter weight bullets. Rifle has been in storage for number of years and seems to be rust free and I'll give the factory barrel a chance to prove itself and if not good, travel some 10-13 miles to Douglas and put a new barrel on it. Always fun to experiment with different calibers/rifles.
I have one 6mm load that has worked for a couple different guns for 40 yrs.. 85 gr sierra bthp with 45 gr imr 4350. Works great on coyotes and paper.

I've shot a few antelope with a 6mm-284, have not lost any (they don't go very far), and I wouldn't represent myself as much of an expert.
