Triplets Arrived!

Wow - that looks like a peach! Delighted to hear that your lean spell is getting sorted, and the gun safe is topping up once more!

I do like the restraint & quality of the carving - far more artistic than some, and certainly more appealing to me than the usual 'over-kill'!
Turns out that my Sauer (a double for yours barring the rifle barrel - 7x57R) is a mere kid, manufactured in Aug 64. A couple of Bucks on the ground proves it to be as capable as the day it left the factory!

BurkhardVery nice gun.
Drillngs with carvings are very rare and yours is a real beauty.
The 6,5x57R is a wonderful round, high precision and not a barrel burner, which is very important for a drilling.

Husqvarna M98Good find, a great hunter.
Ok, now box it up and send it to Sweden to let it roam free a bit, I will send pics of us together taking game and having a good time.
A true hunters rifle, sorry about the banter above, I wish you the best of times together.
Best regards Chris

When you get tired of it you know where to send it.
I've almost got the barrel insert figured out and a more manageable scope on the Simpson.

AkshooterI like it. But then I like my Sauer drilling also.
The 6.5x57 is a great round and I haven't used mine enough yet it is a very popular cartrige in Europe and it appears to me that more 6,5x57 are being sold in Germany and Austria today than 7x57.
Have fun with yours I'll try to give mine the attention it deserves.

N E 450 No2Very nice gun.
Please tell us how the 22 Mag bbl shoots, how accurate had how close to the 6.5bbl zero.

I have several of those Krieghoff inserts, and mine shoot excelent!
As for them being sighted in, that should never be a problem, as they have adjustable wedges on the sides that allow you to sight them to where ever you want them.

luv2safariProperly installed and dialed in, the inserts are very accurate and are a dream for taking small game. I use solids in the 22 mag for small game, as it doesn't damage much meat...and one needs the penetration in case of a charge...
The insert is right on zero at a bit over 50 yards (50 meters), and the 6.5 is 1.5" high at 100 yards with this Hirtenberger 120gr Sierra Game King factory ammo. This is with the scope installed. I've not yet tried the open sight. I'll be loading heavier bullets, around 140gr. I hope they shoot as well as these factory 120's. I have always liked the 257 Roberts, and this is real close, but with a better big game bullet selection, IMO.
I would LOVE to BRING the drilling to Sweden and help thin out the moose and forest grouse...

Les,
Keep me posted re: the Simson. It is a tack driver! Also, you might want to bob the insert to about a 7"-8" barrel. Then, you can carry it in a knife sheath on your belt. Have a good smith do it and a careful crown.

luv2safariI'd love to drop in on you Pommies...

I had plans to try for a MacNab up North of the border about five years ago, but things "went south"; I never got there...

I may try to get there again and would love to impose upon you.

Did I mention that I had a hankering to hunt the US some day?

Better to say it "was" today the number of weapons produced and sold in 6.5x57R and 7x57R is very small. Both calibers suffer from the increasing wildboar population and the hunters therefor switching to heavier calibers from .30 upwards.... so it comes that the "old" 8x57IRS now has a comeback.

I just may have to come over the hill this year and introduce my 7x65 over 16/70 to your little Sauer for a bit of a hunt.

I'll have to find someone with a pack of lion dogs. There are a LOT of cats around, and I have a tag for one. Check on a Non-Res license.

The 8X57IRS is a great round and will never die, just like our 30-06.
