JDA-COOooops!
So I was out Elk hunting and carrying my favorite combo gun (Merk 12 over a 30-06) and when this bull came out at 75yds, I set the 30-06 trigger started to apply pressure and BOOM - I inadvertently strummed the rear trigger and hit him with a 165 grain TSX and 1 1/4 ounce slug... Needless to say it killed him right there and now!
Anyway, here's a pic:

Dulltool17I think that classifies as a "happy accident."
Nice Bull!
How's your shoulder?

dpcdNice elk. Nothing wrong with pulling both triggers at once just to make sure it is dead. I once fired a 9.3x72 round at a squirrel because the selector was on the wrong position but I missed it. JP Sauer Drilling; 9.3 over 16x16.

Nordic2Hunters have been blind by being hit by the scope on a double charge.

JDA-COActually the recoil wasn't that bad. I was more worried about cracking the stock. Alls well that ends well.

Heym SR20Out of interest how well does it shoot slugs - are they accurate enough and shoot close enough to point of aim for it to effectively a double rifle?

Apparently it shoots to the same POA as the 30-06 barrel, at least when the gun doubles!
All is well that ends well. Congrats on the bull.

JDA-COThis gun is special... It shoots 2-3/4 inch federal slugs, Barns TSX's and buckshot all to the same POI at 50yds. The 30-06 shoots one ragged hole at 100yds... Got crazy lucky with this rifle!
On the elk, it destroyed almost an entire front left quarter.
This gun is my baby and I've carried it everywhere...

JDA-COShould have also said the slugs shoot about an inch at 50yds. I tried brennekes and they didn't shoot well at all!

AntlersSo....how close were the shots? Any pics?

JDA-COThanks - It looks like the shotgun slug hit about 4-5 inches above the 30-06 bullet. The left shoulder was totally destroyed. The exit holes were only about two inches apart. I don't have any pictures. Magic bullets for sure!
